February is the month of love, hearts, flowers, chocolates, champagne. It’s easy to feel lost, empty, or just plain angry if you are single at this time. It may seem like everyone else in the world has this all figured out, but trust me, they don’t. If you are in any way dissatisfied with the state of your love life, my message to you today is that love starts with you.
It’s true. Love starts with you. No one can go get a gallon of love at the store and pour it down your throat. The feeling of love resides within you, in your own heart. Remember the last time you held a puppy or a kitten or read an article about someone across the world who was in distress and your heart just felt like it would burst? That was your feeling, your heart, your love.
Love is always with you and it is available to you anytime. When these feelings are activated within you, it is easy to think that they were caused by another person, animal, or situation but in truth, your feelings begin and end with you and so does love.
Ready to love yourself up? Let’s go!
Begin by listening to the voice inside your head. Is it mean or critical? Tell it to wait a minute! Would you say these things to your best friend or your beloved child? Talk to yourself as if you were your very own best friend. Be on your own side. Look in the mirror and say “I love you”. Yes, I’m serious. Practice finding yourself right instead of criticizing yourself. It is ok to want to improve and grow, but remember to come from a place of accepting who you are now.
Are you taking good care of yourself? Getting enough rest, getting to the gym, eating healthy food and making sure that you are spending quality time with family and friends is essential. Make your home an inviting, attractive place that you enjoy spending time in.
Take yourself on a date, just you. Get dressed up and go to a museum and then out for a cocktail or nice dinner. Buy yourself a little present, or even a big present! Light candles and get into the bathtub and read a book or listen to music and sip some champagne. What over-the-top fantastically lovely thing could you do for yourself this week? Do it!
When you truly embrace the fact that love starts with you and make it a habit to absolutely cherish yourself, something wonderful happens. You will feel more content and peaceful within yourself and end up being a much better partner to the person who will ultimately share your life. He or she will be drawn to you because you will embody a calm, grounded presence that most of the world just doesn’t have. You will be open and free to be the person you were born to be and you will share your lovely self with the world.
