Life is not all puppies and rainbows. We all go through some downright painful things sometimes. As a coach I hear about heartbreak, traumatic childhoods and difficult relationships every single day. My heart goes out to anyone who is hurting right now.
It’s part of the human condition to go through painful times, but we do not have to let our pain define us. We can choose instead to let it help us become better, stronger, and more resilient. If you’re ready to do this, let’s begin.
You can reinvent yourself today, right now. Your past does not dictate your future. You are more than your pain, you are more than your past. Decide where you’re going and leave the past behind.
You don’t have to be the woman who got cheated on, dumped or taken for granted, you can be the woman who is creating an awesome new relationship.
You get to say who you are. Why not choose to say that you are awesome? Why not choose to say that you are successful? Who is going to argue with you?
Tell yourself a new story. We all tell ourselves stories. They’re in the thoughts that are going through our minds each day. If you’re still telling yourself a painful story about your past and letting it define your life, make up a new one.
Get out a sheet of paper and write down a story that you like. Write down a story about your future success. Record every detail of what you’d like your life to be like one year from now in all areas.
Imagine your wonderful new relationship, where you’ll be living, what you’ll be doing together.
Dream up the beautiful vacation you’ll go on, holding hands when you’re walking together, going to sleep next to him at night feeling safe and loved.
Get going! Now that you’ve imagined your new life, think of the steps you can take to make it happen today. You don’t have to do everything at once. Write down the things that you’ll need to do in order to become the person who has the things you want and then begin to do them consistently.
Don’t worry if it doesn’t all come to you at once. Start by doing what you can and then keep doing it. There’s always something you can do. Begin to reinvent yourself today.
