After more than a decade as a single mom, many false starts, and a few absolute disasters, I finally married the love of my life in May. I met him on Tinder, mere weeks after being dumped via text by a man I really liked. Yes, it even happens to love coaches my friends!
If you’re thinking of giving up on love, please don’t. Things can turn around for you very quickly. At any given time, you could be one first date away from meeting the person you will spend the rest of your life with.
If you will commit to reaching your goal, be willing to leave your comfort zone, and get some support, you can have someone special in your life sooner than you think. It really doesn’t have to take that long.
First, determine that you WILL find love. It’s up to you. You’re not going to take no for an answer. Do you really think that you’ve been singled out by some deity as unworthy of love or that it’s not “meant to be” for you? Stop it! You can do this. Other people do it every day and so can you.
Second, be willing to leave your comfort zone. I really didn’t want to try Tinder. Like many others, I thought it was an app for hookups. Boy was I wrong! I met a lot of great guys including the man I married. Yes, I endured some disappointments, but you don’t have to be on Tinder to have dating challenges, right?
When I think of how easy it would have been not to meet my husband it amazes me. If I hadn’t gone on Tinder, if I hadn’t opened up my age range, if I had passed him by because he had young children or lived too far away, I could have missed out on meeting him. I would have forfeited my chance to meet the love of my life over a few ideas.
Are your ideas about the kind of person you should date keeping you single? Is there something you’ve been putting off? What could you do right now to meet new men? Go do it. Trust me, it is so worth doing something about!
Finally, get support in your search for love. I really wish I’d done this sooner. Think about it, other people have taught you almost everything you know how to do. There is great value in having a mentor when you’re trying to do something you’ve never done before. Why would you assume that you should “just know” how to date or that a great relationship should just happen if it were meant to be?
Dating is a skill that can be taught and great relationships are worth working for. Most good things are well worth the effort it takes to acquire them.
Every night when I go to sleep in my husband’s arms, I’m so thankful that I hung in there and reached for what I wanted most in life.
Being with this wonderful man is worth every night I cried myself to sleep, every bad date, and all the disappointments I faced. Those things were such a small price to pay for what I have now. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat just to be with him.
