Love Yourself

I can see you rolling your eyes!

I used to get so annoyed about this topic when I was single. I always believed that I loved myself. I bought myself nice clothes, got my hair and nails done, and went on nice trips. I thought I had this nailed.

I didn’t have a real understanding of what it meant to love myself though. I had nice clothes but I put up with the most ridiculous treatment from the men I dated. I worked long hours and couldn’t set appropriate boundaries to save my life.

I never understood that being able to love myself would bring me closer to what I wanted most in life, true love. I finally learned how to love myself though, and I’m convinced that doing so is essential if you want to have a good relationship.

These suggestions can help you have a much better relationship with yourself which will also help you to have better relationships with others:

  1. Stand in front of a mirror and say “I love you” to yourself. This may sound silly but I promise it really works. It will feel awkward at first. Do it anyway.
  2. Be present with yourself and really feel what you’re feeling. Even if the feelings are painful, sit down and learn to deal with them instead of pushing them away.
  3. Commit to yourself and the life you want to have. If you really want to find someone to spend the rest of your life with, don’t leave it up to chance, find a way to make it happen.
